The V8 Supercars Fan Group has continued their team’s championship winning streak, taking it to a record 3 straight titles. In the same season, Sandman Motorsport also went in the record books for winning the drivers’ championship for the third time in a row – something no other driver has managed in Adrenalin Factor history. At the end of the final Season VI round, the team manager of the V8 Supercars Fan Group, Justin, congratulated Sandman aswell as his team for impressive season performances. “Sandman is in the class of his own at the moment, consistently quick and always up the pointy end. It is very hard to combat that when he’s in the form of his life, he’s doing a great job. Although we missed out on the drivers’ championship, we can’t be too disappointed. Race wins including the biggest event of the season, Bathurst aswell as 2nd and 3rd in the drivers’ championship is a very good effort. To also get the teams championship is a great honour.” Despite the being season over, Justin remained confident that the series will be a long stronger next year. “A new mod patch, throw in some outstanding driver performances in the second half of the season and it will make for an interesting competitive championship next season. There are also soo many changes within drivers and teams that you can’t keep up with, I cannot recall a mass period of change before ever.” When asked if V8SFG is sorted for next season, Justin was happy with the current status. “It’s pretty much common knowledge that Bowie and Backmarker have resigned with the team and I’m very happy that our partnership as a team continues. Everyone gets on extremely well and we simply enjoy racing. “Endurance race specialists HRTMAN22 and Sprint51 have also signed with us for another season to compete at the enduro events, something they are very excited about as per the last few events they raced in. I was surprised to hear they could not get a full time gig but that’s good for us.” With Matt also leaving the eStyles Racing Team, Justin said he was in a tough position to select a replacement. “I have received overwhelming number of contacts which I guess is a good thing that the team is being recognized. We got some excellent options and I’ll announce them when a deal is done.” It was also announced recently that TRD who had a technical alliance with the V8SFG team will close its doors immediately due to a lack of funding. “Doors close, new doors open,” said Justin. The TRD/V8SFG partnership has been successful and something that was enjoyable. I felt that Marlon and Daveo could have really challenged SM and V8SFG next season with some miles under the belt, but it’s unfortunate the team had to close. We are speaking to teams, teams are speaking to us. We definitely would like to work with other teams in a technical alliance but it won’t be the end of the world if we don’t. There will be atleast 4 fully spec V8SFG built ‘cars’ on track, who ever decides to use our engines/car setups in a technical alliance are obviously unknown at this stage.” With Sandman also announcing his decision to leave the Holden side for Ford, Justin was confident the red side could fill the void to a degree. “It’s a big loss to Holden without a doubt but the red side has some good talent, I’m sure a few of them will step up. It also gives us (V8SFG) an opportunity to become the leading Holden team and work with other Holden team. The series was desperate for Ford to step up to the plate after a lean few years so it should be a good battle.” Season VII begins later next month. |
